Passenger safety

Passenger safety

Avoiding problems on the road is a requirement for every Irizar vehicle.

All Irizar brand models meet passive safety standards and have the most modern active safety systems to ensure stability and minimise risk in unforeseen circumstances.

ESC stability control provides active torque checking and optimally distributes braking force to each wheel independently to prevent loss of control when manoeuvring abruptly on slippery surfaces. The advanced emergency braking system (AEBS) identifies when maximum braking force needs to be applied and acts automatically to minimize stopping distance.  The lane departure warning system (LDW) detects unintentional departures from the lane the vehicle is travelling in and alerts the driver by vibrating the seat.

In the most extreme situations where it is not possible to predict the behaviour of other drivers, it is reassuring to know that the structure of the coaches has been designed to withstand roll-overs and head-on collisions, optimising weight distribution.

MagicEye is a technologically advanced assistance system developed by Datik, an Irizar Group company, which uses artificial vision technology to help minimise the risk of distraction and collision by detecting and anticipating situations, which helps improve driving reliability. The system includes:

  • DFW: Detection and warning of driver fatigue or distraction
  • FCW: Warning of collision risk with the vehicle in front
  • SDW: Traffic signal detection

We run awareness and education campaigns in schools to teach children about the best safety practices.  We also provide continuing education to fire departments and civil protection groups to instruct them about the best way to stabilise coaches and risky components so they are able to intervene with the agility necessary to best perform extraction manoeuvres.

Open
TPMS: Tyre Temperature and Pressure Monitoring System

Monitors the temperature and pressure of the tyres and prevents tyre blowouts due to inappropriate pressures. It also increases their lifespan and optimises traction, resulting in optimal fuel consumption.

ABS: Anti-lock Braking System

Prevents wheel lock during braking, thereby helping to avoid losing control of the vehicle.

ASR: Anti-Slip Regulation - Traction control system

Prevents loss of wheel grip and stops them from spinning when the driver exceeds the vehicle’s acceleration or the road is very slippery.

EBD: Electronic Brakeforce Distribution

Brakeforce distribution system that determines how much braking force is applied to each wheel in order to stop the car within a minimum distance and without losing control.

EBS: Electronically-controlled Braking System

Electronically activated coach braking system. Integrates the functions of ABS + ASR in a single electronic system.

Roll and stability tests

All Irizar coaches undergo roll-over stability testing so they can lean by over 28º without rolling over, thus complying with future R66.02 regulations (effective in 2017).

ECAS: Electronically Controlled Air Suspension

Smart suspension to ensure stability, optimum weight distribution, safety and passenger comfort.

ACC: Adaptive Cruise Control

Enables speed to be controlled and adapted to traffic conditions, remaining at a safe distance from the vehicle ahead while maintaining a constant speed, optimising fuel consumption

AEBS: Advanced Emergency Braking System

Brakeforce distribution system that determines how much braking force is applied to each wheel in order to stop the car within a minimum distance and without losing control.

Downhill speed control

This downhill speed limiter prevents the vehicle from increasing speed.

Hill hold - Starting on hills

Prevents the vehicle from rolling back.

ESC: EBA: Extended emergency brake assist

Electronically activated coach braking system. Integrates the functions of ABS + ASR in a single electronic system.

EBA: Sistema asistencia de frenada EBA ampliada

Electronically activated coach braking system. Integrates the functions of ABS + ASR in a single electronic system.
